At the upper water outlet of the engine, there is a water pump driven by the fan belt. It pumps out the hot water from the engine cylinder block's water passage and pumps in cold water. Next to the water pump is a thermostat. When the car is just started (cold), the thermostat is not opened, so the cooling water does not pass through the radiator and only circulates inside the engine (commonly known as small circulation). When the engine temperature reaches above 95 degrees, the thermostat opens, and the hot water in the engine is pumped into the radiator. The cold wind blowing through the radiator while the car is moving takes away the heat.
